Boutique investment bank Evercore has bolstered its London operation by hiring a senior dealmaker from rival Lazard.

Richard Hoyle is joining the bank as a senior managing director focused on deals in the information and media sectors, the bank said in a statement. He will work with US-based dealmakers Jason Sobol, Nathan Graf and Jonathan Knee, it added.

Hoyle was latterly head of UK technology, media and telecoms at Lazard, where he worked for eight years across New York and London.

“We are thrilled to have Richard join our team in London to help accelerate the globalisation of our advisory efforts with a focus on this fast-growing sector,” said Matthew Lindsey-Clark, head of European advisory.

Evercore is on the lookout for a new UK headquarters as it expands its business in the region, Financial News reported.

While large investment banks have trimmed their ranks of dealmakers as activity has slowed, boutiques have continued to talk up expansion plans. Employee numbers at Evercore moved from 1,950 in the third quarter of 2021 to 2,160 a year later. The bank has added seven senior managing directors within its advisory business so far this year, it said during its third-quarter results.

Roger Altman, founder and senior chair at Evercore, said during the results that: “Evercore continues to expand, adding talented newcomers and broadening our platform.”
