Argentina judge orders arrest of four Lebanese men over 1994 Jewish Mutual Aid Society bombing – JURIST

Argentinian Federal Judge Daniel Rafecas asked Interpol on Thursday to arrest four Lebanese men and have them extradited to Argentina to stand trial for their association with the deadly bombing at the Argentine Jewish Mutual Aid Society in July 1994 where 85 people were killed. The attack was considered an act of terrorism, and the explosion destroyed cultural objects and documents that had been preserved since the Holocaust.According to local news, one of the suspects, Jose El Reda, has another arrest warrant from the Argentinian Supreme Court of Justice for an attack on the Israeli Embassy. The other three suspects fled the country. All suspects are suspected to be collaborators or operative agents of Hezbollah, which is a Shiite Muslim political party and militant group based in Lebanon with a history of carrying out global terrorist attacks.Neither the Argentine government nor Interpol has commented on Thursday’s arrest warrant.Nobody has been convicted of participation in the 1994 bombing despite the investigation into them reopening in 2022. Although Iran and Hezbollah have been implicated in the attacks, Iran continues to deny any involvement.
