The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Wednesday announced the US will require a negative COVID-19 test for airline travelers from China before boarding. The CDC announced the order to slow the spread of COVID cases in the US during China’s current surge of COVID cases. The announcement noted the “lack of adequate and transparent data” reports from China. The order applies to all passengers from China, regardless of their nationality or vaccination status. Additionally, the test must be approved by the FDA or a “relevant national authority.”The announcement comes as concern grows over the surge of COVID cases in China. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the People’s Republic of China announced an end to several COVID-related restrictions on international arrivals. China’s “zer0-COVID” policy easements came after protests in opposition to the policies. The order will go into effect on January 5, 2023.
